The Florida Healthy Youth Alliance (FHYA) is coordinating continued engagement with school boards across Florida through public comment during the month of May, in recognition of Sex Ed for All Month.

This effort builds on recent conversations with school board members and district leaders and reflects a shared interest in ensuring students receive high-quality, age-appropriate sexual health education.

FHYA members from medical, education, and research professions will participate in school board meetings to provide accurate information and support quality sexual health education that promotes student health and well-being.

Why This Matters

School boards play a critical role in shaping the policies and standards that guide what students learn in the classroom.

Professionals who work directly with youth bring important, real-world perspective on:

  • Student health and safety

  • Adolescent development

  • Prevention of STI, HIV/AIDS, and unintended outcomes

  • The importance of clear, age-appropriate instruction]

By participating in public comment, FHYA members help ensure that decisions are informed by evidence, professional experience, and a shared commitment to student well-being.

Who Is Participating

Participants include trusted professionals from across Florida, including:

  • Physicians and healthcare providers

  • Educators and school-based professionals

  • Mental health professionals

  • Researchers and public health experts

These voices are among the most relied upon when school boards consider issues related to student health and education.

What This Engagement Looks Like

FHYA members will attend school board meetings and provide brief, structured public comment.

This is a coordinated, respectful effort focused on supporting school districts with accurate information and practical insight.

Where This Is Taking Place

FHYA is coordinating participation across multiple school districts throughout Florida.

Participation is focused in key counties while remaining open to professionals statewide who are able to attend and contribute.
